In just two years the Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia has developed into europe’s leading celebration of ‘psych’. The event welcomes a congregation of over 4 thousand to the redeveloped warehouses of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, an annual two day festival at the end of September.
The festival succeeds in honouring the historic legacy of psychedelia while showcasing the diversity and inginuity of the contemporary scene, as organiser Craig Pennington told the NME, “I love the history psych has, but this isn’t revivalism. It’s about challenging the existing psych community, putting together a bill that maybe shares sonic patterns but comes from different approaches.”
Art installations, bands, DJs, symposia and exhibitions make this one of the leading avant-garde music events of the year. In 2013 the festival received extensive national media exposure, including coverage in The Guardian, NME, Quietus, Mojo, Q, Drowned In Sound and the Independent, plus a special edition of Stuart Maconie’s ‘Freak Zone’ show on BBC 6Music.
This year’s bill features headliners WOODS, SUUNS and GOAT. The line up will also include AL LOVER’s SACRED DRUGS project, a welcome return to the scene for THE EARLY YEARS, Austin instrumentalists HOLY WAVE and YOUNGHUSBAND, KLAUS JOHANN GROBE returning with a new album on Trouble in Mind, plus CAMERA, MAZES, ISLET, SATELLITI, THOUGHT FORMS and POW! amongst many more.
